Luanda is the birthplace of kizomba and semba. The October Angola Kizomba Festival is the public anchor — eight days of dance trips through the country closing with a three-day festival weekend in the capital. Day-to-day, the city's kizomba and semba scene lives at clubs, bars, and Carnival rehearsals rather than on a foreign-style weekly social timetable.
