Havana is where salsa was born. Casa de la Música de Centro (Galiano) hosts top Cuban timba bands twice a day — matinée from 5pm and the night show from 11pm or 12:30am.
Cienfuegos — the 'Pearl of the South' — anchors its salsa scene around the Casineros of La Perla dance school in the centro histórico, daily Cuban-dance classes that double as practice socials.
Santiago de Cuba — birthplace of son cubano — runs nightly live-music dancing at the Casa de la Trova Pepe Sánchez on Calle Heredia, plus the Casa de las Tradiciones in Tivolí.
Trinidad — Cuba's colonial-era town in Sancti Spíritus — has nightly live Cuban music and dancing at the Casa de la Música on Calle Cristo and at Taberna La Canchánchara just up the hill.
Varadero — Cuba's most-visited beach destination — has nightly Cuban music and dancing at the Varadero House of Music on Avenida 1ra, 9 PM through 1 AM.
